To direct and lead the church?s program in Christian Education for all children?s ministries and special events, from nursery through elementary school. This person generally will work 20 hours each week (which may vary seasonally) and will be supervised by the Associate Minister of the church, Dan Haugh, in conjunction with the Human Resource Committee of the Board of Trustees, and will work closely with the Christian Education Committee.
Children?s Ministry
The Round Hill Community Children?s Ministries (for children ages five years of age through fifth grade) is founded on the belief that children are innately and joyfully spiritual. Our program is designed to cultivate children making friends and having fun while learning Bible stories and Christian values through creative activities.
Essential Functions of the position:
1) Provides leadership for our Sunday morning Children?s Worship, which involves the following:
a) In collaboration with the Christian Education Committee and clergy, selects each year?s major themes to be explored in the monthly worship gatherings.
b) Recruits, trains, and assists volunteer leaders in the development of weekly lesson plans.
c) Leads the weekly gathering of children. During this time, worship skills are taught, major themes are introduced and interpreted, music may be employed, offerings are collected and sacraments are taught and experienced.
d) Orders necessary supplies, materials, and resources, and ensures they are maintained and organized in appropriate places.
e) Creates and maintains bulletin boards and inviting classroom environments.
f) Writes informative and motivational articles for the monthly newsletter, communicates in a timely fashion to parents and children, and provides publicity as needed.
2) Leads and coordinates the children?s monthly outreach and mission programs, ensuring appropriate interfacing with the Outreach Committee.
a) Organizes and publicizes community and family events on a monthly basis.
b) Develop relationships and partnerships with local preschools, elementary and other community-based organizations seeking the spiritual health of children.
3) Meets weekly with the Associate Pastor and attends weekly Church Staff meetings, as well as Christian Education Committee and Parent Group meetings.
4) Ensures staffing and proper training for childcare needs at all church events that require childcare.
5) Recruits and trains volunteers for key Family Events each month and Church Activities events/traditions throughout the year, including:
a) Rally Day in early September,
b) Advent Workshop late November,
c) Christmas on Round Hill,
d) Christmas Pageant in December,
e) Easter Day Children?s Activities,
f) Annual Picnic in early June, and
g) Special Children?s Table in the Parlor during the Fellowship Hour each Sunday.
6) Communicates regularly with parents, using e-mail and phone, as well as the use of our church?s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
7) Seeks to create an expanding base of volunteers ? mobilizing volunteers in our educational ministries, and ensuring they are trained, equipped, nurtured, supported, affirmed, and recognized.
8) Assists in worship leadership responsibilities, including delivering Children?s Message at least one Sunday per month.
9) Assists the pastoral leadership team in monthly ?First Sundays at Round Hill?, consisting of organizing and implementing child-inclusive worship services that both attract young families and incorporate children in active engagement.
10) Develops faith-based children?s program during the week, providing a safe, fun, nurturing and inspiring environment of spiritual formation and social connectivity.
11) Organizes a week-long summer camp for children of our congregation and community (Theater, Sports, Bible, Arts) and partners with local organizations in hosting additional summer camps on campus.
12) Maintains established office hours as well as relational engagement with families of Round Hill Community Church and the greater Greenwich area.
Terms of Evaluation and Review
This person?s job performance will be reviewed annually by Rev. Haugh, in conjunction with the Human Resources Committee and the leaders of the Christian Education Committee.
Yearly goals and objectives will be reviewed and evaluated, and new goals and objectives for the coming year will be established.
Such goals and objectives, both short-term and long-term, will reflect both the personal hopes and expectations of the Director of Children?s Ministries, as well as the hopes and expectations of the Church.
Terms of Employment
This person and the Church will enter into a signed contract/letter that will set out the financial arrangements, vacation time, and all other details of employment.
The policies of the Personnel Manual of Round Hill Community Church will be followed in all situations and circumstances that arise.
Qualifications
Experience teaching or working with children in a context of Christian faith formation. Prior experience working in church context preferred, but not necessary.
Theological education beneficial, but not required.
